The latest issue of Young Scot magazine looks at laws recently passed in Scotland that address hate crimes. Research shows that hate crimes cause greater psychological harm because they are motivated by prejudice and they create fear in victims and communities. The law already exists to protect victims of racial or religious crimes, and has now been extended to people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender, or disabled.
