Youth justice: YJB widens choices for supervision

1 min read

The variations on its intensive supervision and surveillance programme (ISSP) are designed for young offenders who are 13 or under, or in employment.

The junior ISSP will require offenders to be involved in 12-and-a-half hours of contact a week - rather than the 25 hours of contact required under the full ISSP. The YJB said the junior ISSP would be better suited to this age group because of their level of maturity, and the likelihood of them being in full-time education.

For the employment-based ISSP, young offenders who can prove they are in formal employment will only be required to have seven hours of contact a week.
