Aim To reduce youth offending
Funding pounds 1.2m from the Scottish Government
Carrot-and-stick tactics are being adopted in the Grampian area of Scotland to tackle youth offending.
The so-called "get tough tactics" will involve police identifying those causing the most problems in communities and working with local agencies to offer them an alternative to a life of crime.
Backed by £1.2m of Scottish government funding, the project will run for the next two years before being evaluated.
The new approach will use tactics similar to those used to successfully engage with Glasgow gangs where if young offenders refuse to engage, they will feel the full force of the law.
