Youth Justice News: Youth custody - Prisons warned that little has changed since Mubarek death

Mubarek was beaten to death by his racist cellmate Robert Stewart in Feltham Young Offender Institution. Last week the findings of a public inquiry into his death were published.

Justice Keith, the inquiry chairman, identified a catalogue of errors that contributed to the death, and published 88 recommendations designed to prevent similar tragedies happening.

He also named about 20 individuals who had failed to do their jobs properly. Imran Khan, a solicitor for the Mubarek family, said: "The family will now be looking at what action can be taken against those officers."

Khan also threatened to take legal action if the Government does not accept all of the report recommendations. The Mubarek family had to fight for a public inquiry, and Khan said: "If we have to go back to court we will."
