A member of the Youth Justice Board (YJB), who is due to leave it at the end of September, has criticised health and education provision in youth offending teams (YOTs), in a report published by the Centre for Crime and Justice Studies.
In From punishment to problem solving, Rob Allen, director of the international centre for prison studies, King's College London, and a YJB board member for the past eight years, says having health and education professionals in YOTs may have made it harder for young people to access mainstream provision. Allen said: "It may have had the effect of encouraging health authorities and education departments to feel they are meeting responsibilities by putting one person into a YOT."
