The training programme, which is being produced by the Judicial Studies Board, will include practical work on issuing individual support orders (ISOs) alongside antisocial behaviour orders (ASBOs). These are designed to ensure young people are given the necessary support they need to adhere to the terms of an ASBO.
Magistrates are supposed to consider giving an ISO every time they issue an ASBO. But in practice only a tiny proportion of ASBOs have the support orders attached to them. The Home Office said there are signs that use of ISOs is rising, but it is keen to find ways to increase take-up.
