Youth Justice News: Annual Youth Justice Convention - Governmentdefends justice target despite service criticism

The "offences brought to justice target" requires police forces to bring a specified number of offenders to court, or issue them with fixed-penalty notices or other pre-court disposals.

Youth justice professionals are concerned it leads police to target young people who are seen as an easy way to drive up the numbers.

The Home Office is concerned by the number of young people being arrested for minor crimes, but at the Youth Justice Board's annual convention last week, Baroness Scotland, the minister for criminal justice, said the target was not to blame.

"The offences brought to justice target has been a success," she said.
