Tackling youth vandalism is one of five guides launched by the Home Office and environmental campaigns charity Encams, the organisation behind the Keep Britain Tidy campaign. The guide suggests that diversionary activities are provided to prevent young people from engaging in vandalism.
Encams is also working with the Government on the roll-out of a programme to tackle criminal damage, currently being trialled in Derby and Oldham. The scheme, which rolls out next month, will see Crime Disorder and Reduction Partnerships work together to analyse local problems and draw up action plans to tackle them. After three months, the partnerships will assess whether the crackdown has worked and what more needs to be done.Alan Woods, chief executive of Encams, said: "The programme's aim is to get local authorities to find out where criminal damage is being done, who is doing it and why - and then come up with an antidote."
