Youth Justice: Crime partnership shows progress

A south London partnership involving youth workers, young people and the police has cut crime by up to 30 per cent.

Lewisham Youth Forum has teamed up with the borough's police force and 11 secondary schools as part of Operation Callisto. Forum members aged between 13 and 20 have been engaging with young people outside the school and in the town centre, alongside police.

Detective chief inspector Ian Mill, proactive crime manager in Lewisham, said: "By getting youth workers and young people involved, we can communicate with them on a different level on issues of crime prevention." Mill added that crime had fallen by 20 to 30 per cent compared with the same week last year.
