Youth justice: ASBO lifted for good behaviour

1 min read

Last week Leeford Walker, 19, had a five-year ASBO banning him from visiting some areas of the city, and meeting certain people, removed more than three years before it was due to expire.

Walker was given the order in February 2004 following a crackdown on drug dealing and antisocial behaviour in the Little London area of Leeds. He was placed on an intensive supervision and surveillance programme and started working with Leeds Youth Offending Service, eventually becoming a mentor for other young people.

The council decided to apply to have the ASBO lifted because it was satisfied that Walker was no longer involved in antisocial activities, and was contributing to the community positively. He is now considering becoming a youth worker.
