Youth Facilities: Council TV success brings new shelter

A local authority has built a youth shelter using cash won through a TV show.

North East Derbyshire District Council entered its youth shelterproject, designed with the help of young people, in ITV's The People'sMillions and scooped 80,000 of Lottery funding after winning theregional final.

The shelter, which features automatic lighting and radio, has beendecorated by a street artist at the request of the young peopleinvolved.

Council leader Graham Baxter said: "The young people wanted somethingthey could call their own. We involved them by producing a montage ofthe styles of shelters available."
