YOUTH CRIME: Prison Service wants more youth work

A one-day conference will be held at the Friends House, Euston Road, north London on 23 July to seek the views and experiences of youth organisations already working in, or that want to work in, prisons.

The Voluntary Sector Co-ordination Unit within the Prison Service commissioned YMCA England to set up the consultation event.

Pete Crossley, national co-ordinator for the YMCA's Partnerships in Prisons, which runs programmes in juvenile and young offender establishments around the country, said: "Ultimately, these young offenders are going to get out. We have to ask whether we want them coming out as angry young people or better citizens."
