The charity, launched last November by youth minister Margaret Hodge, has a teen category in its awards that recognises young people who are taking the initiative to address issues they find important, such as bullying, smoking, gun crime and healthy living.
Each group brought its own approach to combatting these problems: some set up student support schemes to tackle bullying, while others raised awareness by arranging arts-based projects or organising marches through the streets of their community.
Wavemakers is working in partnership with Barnardo's, the National Children's Bureau, School Councils UK and many other organisations to reward the achievements of inspirational young people. Three of these groups of young people are profiled below.
