Young disabled to be consulted

Health
A course for professionals seeking to involve disabled young people in meetings about their needs and care has been launched by The Children's Society.

The I Want to be Involved! training aims to help participants engage disabled young people in their annual reviews or transition reviews, which every child with a statement of educational needs must have.

The course encourages participants to employ creative methods to help disabled young people communicate their thoughts, wishes and feelings. All course materials were selected in consultation with disabled young people.

Lucy Aston, disability project worker at The Children's Society, said: "Disabled young people need to be able to fully contribute to their reviews and planning meetings, and this course gives the skills to facilitate this."
