The festival, in its seventh year, is organised by The Children's Society and the YMCA Fairthorne Group. About 1,600 11- to 16-year-old carers will take part in the event in Southampton.
Jenny Frank, programme manager for The Children's Society's young carers' initiative, said: "If Ofsted inspections covered support for young carers, schools would take it seriously." The society is supporting an amendment to the education bill that would embed support for young carers in schools.
An early day motion on young carers, tabled last week by Liberal Democrat MP Annette Brooke, had received 66 signatories as YPN went to press.
