Young Carers: Birmingham plan sets out priorities

The Commissioning Strategy for Carers 2006-2011 is based on a three-month consultation with groups including six- to 16-year-old young carers.

The strategy calls for children, adult and education services to work together to support young carers, said Jayne Brookes, strategic commissioner for carers' services in the Adult and Commun- ities directorate at Birmingham City Council: "There are four commissioning intentions, which include getting children and adult services to work together on assessing young carers, developing a young carers' assessment protocol, working to combat bullying, and commissioning new services for BME young carers."
