Working in the South West: Web site promotes child protectionprocedures to South West workers

A dozen local authorities in the South West of England have launched a web site to boost understanding of child protection procedures.

The South West Child Protection Procedures site was developed by apartnership of councils led by South Gloucestershire, and will be usedto train staff including teachers and childcare workers. The site willalso be a quick reference guide for people like children's socialworkers who deal with child protection issues.

"We have taken the new Working Together to Safeguard Children guidanceand translated that into simple language to provide a step-by-stepguide," explained Ruby Parry, head of children's social services atSouth Gloucestershire Council.

Professionals can also access the latest research, government guidanceand the law to help them tackle situations where they're worried about achild's welfare.

Parry said the site was aimed at anyone who deals with children andfamilies in their work including the police, youth service, health,housing and Connexions staff, while the public can find out what theycan expect from professionals.
