In 2007, a total of 34,420 children aged five to 11 living in London were dependent on a parent or guardian claiming incapacity benefit or severe disablement allowance.
Department for Work and Pensions figures showed this was a slight decrease on the 2006 total of 34,910. In 2005, the total was 36,910. For 12- to 16-year-olds, the figure was 30,630 in 2007, again down only marginally from 30,715 in 2006 and 32,060 in 2005. And a total of 21,995 children aged up to four living in London were dependent on a parent or guardian claiming benefits in 2007, down from 22,555 in 2006 and 22,750 in 2005.
