Wellbeing: Main parties back Unicef action plan

In February, the children's charity ranked the UK bottom of a league table in its study Child Well-Being in Rich Countries.

Unicef's Declaration of Child Wellbeing, issued this month, calls on politicians and policy-makers to take into account children and young people's needs and place them at the "heart of society".

Twelve action points include creating a society where children and young people feel safe and are free to explore, providing mental health services that are there when young people need them, and giving the younger generation someone to talk to and somewhere to go.

Senay Camgoz, public affairs officer for Unicef UK, said: "This declaration calls on everyone to ensure that we live up to the promise we made when we signed the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child."
