Wellbeing is a buzzword that epitomises the government's vision for the 21st century school. Ofsted plans to include pupil wellbeing indicators in inspections and the government's Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (Seal) programme has been adopted by more than half of all schools, both primary and secondary.
The Penn Resiliency Programme (PRP), an import from the US, is the latest in a raft of measures designed to promote the wellbeing of children and young people. Currently being trialled with 11- to 13-year-olds in three local authorities, the scheme's evaluation has been funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF).
