Wales: Youth justice policies to be reworked for Wales

1 min read

The group will adjust policies so they tie in with policies developed by the Welsh Assembly.

Howard Williamson, vice-chair of the Wales Youth Agency and a member of the main Youth Justice Board, will chair the Welsh group.

"The sub-board is to ensure that everything that the Youth Justice Board does can be played out appropriately in the different policy framework of Wales," he said. "For instance, there's no Children's Fund in Wales, so we have to find different ways of ensuring the same proportion of money goes on preventative work."

A strategy and implementation group will be set up alongside the sub-board to work out how to put policies into action. The membership of the two groups will be similar and meetings are likely to be held at the same time and in the same place.
