The Childcare Approval Scheme means families who use live-in nannieswill be able to claim tax credits if they are eligible. When it wasintroduced in England in 2005, the scheme attracted criticism fromcampaigners who pointed out those able to afford nannies were unlikelyto qualify for tax benefits. But the Government insisted the schemeremoved any discrimination against those who choose to use nannies.
The National Childminding Association welcomed the scheme's expansioninto Wales. Gail Le Grove, the association's director for Wales, said:"This will be beneficial for nannies who will be able to demonstratetheir professionalism by becoming approved on the scheme."
