Opinion: Debate - Should parents using nannies get childcare taxcredits?

1 min read
The Government has rolled out to Wales a scheme allowing parents who use nannies to claim the same tax credits and benefits as families who use other forms of childcare such as children's centres, nurseries and childminders.

NO - Mike Warburton, senior tax partner, Grant Thornton accountants

Most people who can afford nannies would not qualify for tax credits. There are exceptions and that would be people who need to go out towork, such as single parents. But for most people nannies are more of aconvenience, than a necessity. These are not people who would beclaiming tax credits. I think most people would agree that if taxcredits are being given they should go to the most needy and these donot tend to be people who can afford to use nannies.YES - Patricia Pritchard, senior professional officer, ProfessionalAssociation of Nursery Nurses
