WALES: Services have their priorities wrong

A report called The Lost Children of Wales, by regeneration group rezolv Wales, looked at the views of 250 16- to 19-year-olds in Cardiff, the Valleys and west Wales who were not overachievers or excluded. It revealed young people feel let down by the system and fear they don't have skills employers need.

Mark Fowler, head of Wales and International at rezolv, said: "Young people feel they have worked hard for low qualifications, but find employers are looking for soft skills such as initiative and leadership." He suggested that there needs to be a rethink of all services for young people, as well as strong government leadership to put them at the centre of agencies' work.
