Wales: Joint plan to help young offenders

The Welsh Assembly and Home Office have issued a joint plan designed to link policies on juvenile offenders.

The Youth Justice Plan, issued last week, aims to unite Welsh andWestminster policies around six principles.

It includes a commitment by the Welsh Assembly and Home Office to ensurejuvenile offenders from Wales get better health, education and socialcare support.

It also pledges to ensure there is suitable accommodation for juvenilesleaving prison and to improve advice services.

The plan also supports the All Wales Youth Offending Strategy's stancethat all juveniles are treated as children first and criminalssecond.
