Seventeen young people in Rhyl, north Wales, will be in charge of handing out 7,000 provided by The Prince's Trust during the first year of the YouthBank's operation.
The young people, aged 11 to 25, have set up the Rhyl Youth Action Group, which will decide on the criteria for giving out grants. Mark Farrar, development officer at YouthBank UK, said: "We've been trying hard to get a YouthBank up and running in Wales. Our board was keen that young people are involved as much as possible."
The Rhyl group is considering appointing a young person as a trainee co-ordinator to spend time with youth work and community development agencies, gathering skills that will help them co-ordinate projects and mentor their peers.
