DAVID BARNES, professional officer, British Association of Social Workers
As ever, we are trying to get from where we are now to where we want to be and it is about making this journey in a way that maximises the opportunities for children to be looked after well in the broadest sense. Therefore, a blanket ban may not be helpful at this point in time, but raising the possibility of such a ban helps to set the agenda in which social work assessment can address this as a real concern for the health of children.
