Senior Conservatives praised the work of social entrepreneurs likeCamila Batmanghelidjh, founder of Kids Company in south London.
Former leader Iain Duncan-Smith and former shadow chancellor OliverLetwin both said the voluntary sector should have a greater role intackling child poverty.
Duncan-Smith, who is chairing the party's social justice policy group'said: "If we are prepared to risk more in financial terms we will see ahuge flowering of initiative and talent."
Letwin said: "We need to free up voluntary groups so we can deal withpeople in the round. Our problem is to find the framework that allowsthese heroes to flourish." He rejected criticism that the party wasintent on offloading the work of the statutory sector onto charities.
