Tories will not reverse youth sector reforms

2 mins read Youth Work
The Conservative Party intends to build on existing youth schemes and has no plans to overhaul youth services if they win the next election, according to shadow children's minister Tim Loughton.

Speaking at the Confederation of Heads of Young People's Services (Chyps) annual convention today, Loughton allayed fears that the Conservatives would bring in systemic changes after the upheaval of switching to integrated youth services over the past three years.

He said: "The last thing that we want to see is yet another major overhaul of the system and structural changes just for the sake of it."

Loughton added that the Tories would look to further invest in the creation of new youth centres, although he added that he did not believe investing millions of pounds in individual centres - as the government has done through the Myplace scheme - was the right way forward.
