At Young People Now's Children's Trusts for Young People conference last week, Anne Weinstock, the director of the Supporting Children, Young People and Families group at the Department for Education and Skills (DfES), said colleagues were working on the problem, and added: "No-one in a children's trust can represent the whole of the voluntary sector, but there needs to be something there."
Amy Weir, regional change adviser for the South West at the DfES, said voluntary groups should continue to provide services. "I have some evidence to the contrary, but I think that the (children's trust) model should work much better," she said.
