Communities and local government minister Ruth Kelly has approved Chichester District Council's application for a planning direction restricting the use of the land at Park Farm, near Lurgashall in West Sussex.
This removes the Woodcraft Folk's right as landowner to hold camps. A youth group from Lambeth was due to visit this week, and camps were planned for the rest of the summer.
Chichester council said in a statement that it had been forced to apply for the planning direction to preserve the area for the local community after the Woodcraft Folk failed to listen to its concerns. But Stewart Hunter, Woodcraft Folk vice president, said that the council had refused to negotiate with the group over its use of the site.
