The Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety in Northern Ireland seeks views on the transformation of business services in health and social care. The purpose of the consultation is to assist the department in developing a policy on the most effective and efficient arrangements for the provision of business and other common services to the health and social care system in Northern Ireland. This will be achieved through the use of shared services organisations (SSO).
Using modern business processes, SSOs could operate at lower costs with improved quality. The resources currently used in these functions could then be released and transferred to improve front line patient and client services. In addition, bodies within the system would be relieved of the day-to-day responsibility of managing these support functions, allowing them to concentrate their efforts on improving the health and wellbeing of the population.
