Training funds saga nears resolution

The crisis in funding for educational psychologist training looks to be close to reaching a resolution.

Plans to revise the system previously came unstuck due to legal restrictions on local authority finance. But an eleventh-hour decision means money given to councils to train educational psychologists will now be handed over to the Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC), who will co-ordinate training.

Schools minister Lord Andrew Adonis has written to directors of children's services asking them to support the scheme by returning the money to the CWDC. The amount each council will contribute is based on their school population.

CWDC director Brian Tytherleigh told CYP Now the amount was worked out fairly and the new system would be able to react better to demand.
