Tories talk tough on child trafficking

1 min read Social Care
Child trafficking victims should have better access to safe houses, according to a set of new Conservative policies.

The Conservatives recommend services like the Poppy Project, which provides accommodation for women who have been trafficked in London, should be expanded to offer services to teenagers under 18.

In an update on the policies published a year ago, the report, Human Trafficking One Year On, says: "Conservative policy is to revise the regulatory framework so that 16- and 18-year-olds can be admitted to the Poppy Project consistent with the regulation applicable to child protection and care."

Other proposals in the report include that children travelling alone with an adult who is not a parent or guardian should have a separate interview, and immigration officials should check the dates of return tickets of such minors to clarify discrepancies.
