Tool works out value of FIPs

The government has developed software to help local authorities estimate the financial impact of family intervention projects (FIPs).

The Family Savings Calculator, developed by the Department forEducation, will be available to local authorities this week. Using thecalculator, the government claims agencies that fund FIPs could save upto 81,600 for every family that completes an intervention.

Mel Bailey, Worcestershire FIP project manager, said: "We've secured369,000 in local authority funding after using the tool to showwe save 139,000 for every family that completes the project."
