Time to Change

Grants for projects challenging the stigma and discrimination around mental illness

What is it? Time to Change is a campaign run by mental health charities Mind and Rethink Mental Illness. It is jointly funded by the Department of Health and Comic Relief.

The campaign offers grants for projects that challenge stigma and discrimination around mental illness. A fifth of the total funds available are for projects that work with children and young people up to the age of 24.

Projects usually focus on bringing people with mental health problems together with those who do not, to create opportunities for them to have meaningful conversations.

How much is available? The campaign is looking for funding bids from two kinds of projects. The first is projects that work with children and young people in the South East, the focus area of the current third round of the programme. Grants of between £10,000 and £40,000 are available for these projects. The second is projects that work with children and young people in at least two English regions, one of which must be the South East. Grants of up to £100,000 are available for these projects.

What will it fund?
The campaign is keen to fund projects that: improve the knowledge, attitudes and behaviour of young people and families around mental health; reduce the number of young people with mental health problems who experience stigma and discrimination; improve the confidence and ability of young people and families to speak openly about their mental health problems; and build young people’s confidence and ability to get involved and engaged within their local communities and activities.
