Time out for teens in family disputes

1 min read Social Care Youth Work
Lambeth Council is to help young people cope with problems at home through a new housing project.

The London borough's Time Out project aims to help keep families together when rows and conflicts threaten to break them up.

Young people aged 16 and 17 will be referred to the pilot scheme by the council's family support service and placed in a newly refurbished four-storey building to give them time away from the family home.

The service was set up by Lambeth Housing and Supporting People and will be run by Look Ahead Housing & Care and the charity Alone in London.

The Time Out building houses three mediation rooms, where trained mediators can work with the young people and their parents in a neutral environment. Rooms will be available for up to six weeks.
