The Westminster Foundation

What is it? The Westminster Foundation was set up in 1974 by the property group Grosvenor Estate to fund social care, education, conservation and military welfare projects.

How much is on offer? Grants totalling £1.5m were handed out in 2008. Typical grants range from £5,000 to £10,000.

What will it fund? It restricts its funding to areas where the Grosvenor Estate owns land and businesses. These include parts of London and Lancashire, Chester, Sutherland and Edinburgh. Its education grants are often awarded to improve study in relevant areas such as land management and historic building conservation. Social care grants include help to train those from disadvantaged communities, address homelessness and support offenders, those with learning difficulties and facial disfigurements.

Who can apply? The grants are mainly for charities, but groups that can prove the grant is being used for charitable purposes are also considered.
