The race for health Brent scheme gets families healthier together

Children in Tower Hamlets get active through the London borough's weight loss programme Best, which aims to get families eating better and doing more exercise.

The council is now launching another programme, Mend, to reduce childobesity. The programme takes the form of a 10-week course where childrenand their families learn how to tackle obesity. Children are referred tothe programme by their GP or their nurse. Labour councillor LutfurRahman, Tower Hamlets' lead member for culture, said: "This is afantastic opportunity to encourage activity in young people. Obesity isa global problem and it's important that we take positive steps totackle it."
