The National Youth Agency: youthinformation.com looks at meningitisand you

1 min read

One in four students carry the bacteria that can cause meningitis at the back of their throats, compared with one in 10 of the rest of the population. Students in particular need to be aware of the signs and symptoms of this disease, which can take hold and kill within hours. Shared living arrangements, exposure to germs from around the country and social and intimate interaction all increase the risk.

Meningitis vaccinations are available for students entering higher education for the first time and everyone aged 24 or under. For more information, call 0845 644 0184 or visit the Meningitis Trust web site at www.meningitis-trust.org.
