Have you been forced to read a book about something you have no interest in? Sometimes books you are asked to read at school may not be the books you would choose to pick up yourself. Don't be put off though. Reading can be fun and enriching, and enjoyable as well as informative leisure activity.

The World Book and Copyright Day event aims to draw the attention of governments as well as the public to this large means of knowledge, expression and communication which, despite the emergence of increasingly sophisticated media, remains the basis of active education and critical thinking. It also emphasises the role of books and copyright in the development of a culture of peace, tolerance and universal dialogue.
