In its response The NYA says: "We believe from our experience of working with young people in local and national political affairs that young people have amply demonstrated that 16 is indeed old enough to "make a mark" and that many have already done so in astounding fashion."
"We believe lowering the voting age will promote engagement, rebuild trust between young people and politicians and embed citizenship education. It also gives recognition to the significant contribution many young people make in society and will encourage more to play an active part."
To encourage support for the "yes" campaign and debate on the issue The NYA has reissued its series of posters showing what young people can do at age 16 - including drive, join the armed forces, get married and pay taxes.
