The National Youth Agency: Review of professional validation requirements

1 min read
The National Youth Agency (NYA), on behalf of the Education Training Standards Committee (ETSC), is running a review of the requirements for the professional validation of higher education programmes, which are recognised by the Joint Negotiating Committee as conferring professionally qualified status for Youth Workers in England.

Amanda Fearn, NYA workforce development officer, said: "The purpose of the review is to ensure that the requirements continue to ensure professionally qualified contemporary youth and community workers who have the necessary knowledge and skills to work effectively with young people and within organisations across the statutory, voluntary and community sectors."

A working group made up of representatives from employers, higher education organisations, unions and key national organisations will be brought together to lead the revision. Details of the group membership will be available by the end of June.

The wider field is also being invited to contribute thoughts on the revision via consultation papers. Development and consultancy will take place over the rest of the year with the ETSC considering a final draft of the revised requirements next June prior to publication in August 2010.
