Beebee told stand-in host Ian Danter that such reports ignored the real issues in young people's lives. He drew attention to the work of The NYA, the information and links provided by youthinformation.com, and the value of youth work itself.
Beebee said the opportunity came about through his involvement with Kerrang!, the most widely read music magazine among young people in the country. He said: "I was able to combine both elements, something I had hoped to do a lot more of in future. Music plays an enormous and often pivotal role in youth culture and, therefore, young people's lives. It is important to recognise that music is nearly always inspiring for young people and can be a catharsis or release. It's quite wrong of the media to blame music for promoting self-harm and suicide. We should pay attention to the real issues in young people's lives, as realised through The NYA and its health agenda, and that can only be done by involving and listening to them."
