Using The NYA's Act by Right workbook, the British and Palestinian groups devised new ways to campaign on behalf of children's rights. They agreed that posters, workshops, petitions, demonstrations and case studies were excellent ways of raising awareness and created their own petition, which NYA staff signed.
They then screened a film, Forbidden Rights. Filmed in Palestine by the young people from the visiting Palestinian Friendship Association, it offered a thought provoking insight into the lives of children and young people in the occupied territory, and made it clear that their rights were not being observed, despite the CRC. Ninety per cent said they had been victims of violence during the Israeli occupation, and all expressed feelings of imprisonment.
