The young people looked back on their experience of services and of being taken seriously by decision makers. They unanimously said things would only get better if they were involved in the design, delivery and evaluation of services.
Paul Walsh, outgoing principal manager of Children Looked After and Leaving Care, was thanked by young people for all he had achieved. He spoke of recent improvements in education, health and housing, kick-started by Richmond taking on The National Youth Agency's Hear by Right standards framework four years ago.
Assistant director Barbara Murray and principal manager for safeguarding Kieran Travers spoke of the challenges ahead, especially concerning young people's wellbeing and improving access to further education, training and jobs.
