Lambeth's Marcus Lipton Youth Club lies within the so-called "territory" of two south London gangs where teenagers as young as 13 are often earmarked as potential gang members.
Three young people from the club instigated the Breaking Barriers project to take members from the different gangs away from their regular environment and give them an opportunity to get to know each other in a safe location.
In theory, the young people would not regard each other as potential enemies in future, regardless of the setting. The club is now putting this idea into action - about 20 young people aged between 12 and 15 have been on a residential trip away from Lambeth that has allowed them to engage in fun and challenging activities.
