"Understanding and using Getting Connected", organised by the Young Adult Learning Partnership (NIACE/The NYA), will be held on 3 and 4 April in Birmingham. The course is designed to equip practitioners to use the Getting Connected curriculum framework for social inclusion in their work with young adults.
Getting Connected is geared towards enhancing the work of all those engaged with the personal and social development of young people, including youth workers, Connexions staff, e2e providers and learning mentors. The programme is also used by practitioners in health projects, young parent projects, housing projects, YWCAs, YMCAs, alternative curriculum provision and those using non-formal methods in schools and colleges.
Over the two days the course will cover:

- What is emotional literacy? How does Getting Connected enhance the emotional literacy of young learners?
- What is mentoring? The role of mentoring in supporting young learners engaged with Getting Connected
- What are learning styles? How attention to learning styles contributes to success for young adult learners
- Multiple intelligences - addressing the intelligence characteristics of young learners, why this is important and how it can be done
- The learning outcomes and the performance criteria for each outcome
- Ideas for practical implementation - what activities might be appropriate? A hands-on practical opportunity to plan and share activities to be used in work with young adult learners
- Assessment, moderation and accreditation - a step-by-step exploration of the entire process, from gathering of evidence of learning, through to portfolio building, internal moderation, external moderation and accreditation.
