For a week in Prague this August, the Euro<26 card was the most sought after, must-have accessory around town. The 7,000 European young people who converged on the city for the Prague 2003 European festival - a celebration of 30 years of the European Alliance of YMCAs - all wanted one, but only seven people got one.
The seven were the group of young people who represented England at the special sessions of the YMCA European Youth Parliament. Their membership of Euro<26 was organised by YMCA England's YSPEAK? project which aims to connect young people with politics.
For a few days, training and committee sessions took place in a dusty tent on the festival site. Then the English representatives took their Euro<26 cards across the city to the Czech parliament building where the young people met members of the Czech parliament and, by special permission, used the Senate Chamber for their plenary session.
