The National Youth Agency: Comment - Where do we go from here?

1 min read
I have been listening to musicals and I recommend Evita to you. I know it is old but some old songs still have the best tunes.

My youngest has just completed her dissertation on musical theatre. I have lived this process every step of the way: the barrage of music, the table filled with scribbled notes, no access to my computer and sleepless nights punctuated with cries of desperation as the deadline approached. However, like Evita, it is now over and she waits to see the results.

The populist story of Evita is interesting; a circus centred around a woman who grew up in poverty, winning early cheers but losing her integrity and impact, and damaging those around her as her power increased. We see the elements of this circus day by day, an ordinary story all around us: MPs' expenses, bankers' bonuses, ever changing service structures - all part of a ceaseless round of activity, not necessarily progression.
